June 4, 2014

We checked out of our first home this morning. It was fun being so close to the action of downtown Sydney.

We checked into our second home in Mosman. We thought it would be fun to have a change of scenery. We have a bit more room in this flat and are just a quick walk to the main strip of shops.

After we checked in, we went to Manly Beach before Matt had to leave for his conference. It was another beautiful stretch of golden sandy beach. We hadn’t really planned on staying too long, but the kids wanted to play in the sand and then, of course, the water. So we had a very lovely morning at the beach. None of us were dressed for it, but that didn't stop the kids from enjoying the ocean!

Matt dropped us off at the house when he left so we showered and changed into bathing suits and headed off again. We grabbed a great lunch at The Burger Shed.

Then we hiked down to Balmoral Beach. This beach had barely any waves, which is great for allowing kids to play in the ocean, but Connor was really hoping for some crashing waves to go up against the sand fort he was going to build. He built the fort anyway and there were a few waves that put up a good fight against the fort. We also found a section of beach that had a lot of tiny seashells that Carolina enjoyed collecting. She put all the keepers carefully into the pocket of her rash guard and then protectively held on to them with one hand for the rest of the afternoon. It was a very fun and relaxing afternoon at the beach!

We caught a bus back up to the downtown area and walked the rest of the way home. I love how flexible the kids are and how they are always up for an adventure. I wasn’t sure exactly how taking the bus would work and which one we should catch as we left the beach. Connor was a little concerned, but I told him we would figure it out, and that at the very worst, we would get a scenic drive to a new place. I think it was good for him to see us out of our familiar comfort zone routine and for him to be a part of our problem-solving process.
