June 3, 2014

Today we took Matt back to the park in Darling Harbour that the kids loved so much so they could so him how cool it was. Then Matt headed to his conference and we headed to the Circular Quay via train to catch a ferry to the Toronga Zoo. The weather was beautiful, which made for a great ferry ride. We had great views of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.

The kids and I had a very fun afternoon at the zoo. The Australian area of the zoo is what impressed us the most. We were really hoping to see Australian animals up close and personal and we did! We loved the wombat. He was really cute and was so close to us that we could have touched him. The kangaroo area was an enclosure that we could walk through. There were no fences or rails between us and the kangaroos. The only instruction was to stay on the path so we were able to observe them close up. We also saw a koala in the lower branches of a tree that was eating leaves. Koalas are so lovable! We also saw wallabies, an echidna, an Australian bat, lots of nocturnal Australian mice and rats, an Australian pelican and more. The rest of the zoo contained the typical zoo animals like chimps, lions, and tigers. The kids loved the penguins and the otters because they could follow them above ground and under the water. Connor liked the mountain goats because one of the goats peed on a ledge on the mountain and the pee dribbled down the cliff onto the back of another goat. He thought it was hilarious. The giraffes definitely had the best view of the city!

We caught the ferry back to the Circular Quay and then took a train to the closest stop near our house. Connor and Carolina wanted to take a picture of them pretending to hold up the Opera House while we were on the ferry. We tried, but it was hard to get a shot on a moving boat.

We walked home and relaxed until Matt got home. Then we took a quick night walk to the iconic Coca-Cola sign to take some pictures in the dark.
